Hi everyone! Alex here with this week's tutorial. Today, I wanted to show you how to make this sweet and simple washi tape butterfly.
To start with, you need to choose two different rolls of washi tape. My butterfly is made of Tropical Sherbet and Star Field. Take a piece of clear vellum and cover two sections with washi. For the upper half of the butterfly, cover a little more than 4 x 2.75 inches of the vellum and for the bottom half a little more than 3 x 3. Then cut them down to the dimensions above, i.e. 4 x 2.75 and 3 x 3.
Now fold your washi covered vellum as shown above, like if you were making a fan. The rectangular piece you should fold diagonally and the squared one horizontally. Then glue them together, centered one above another. I used a clear glue dot. It doesn't matter if you can see it, we are going to cover it with twine.
Pick some twine of your choice (I used two different solid colors) and wrap it around the two pieces. I like the look of hanging twine, so I kept it pretty long. Use a pair of scissors to round the bottom wings and you are done!
I used my butterfly on a birthday card, which I made of the Blah, Blah, Blah, Gossip and Dish papers from the Daily Flash Girl Talk line.
Alphas are also from the Daily Flash collection. I used the yellow Dandelions and the pink Strawberry Ice Cream stickers.
I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial. Thank you so much for stopping by!
