Top o' the Monday to you! In honor of St. Patrick's Day and the first day of spring this week, today's challenge is to celebrate GREEN. Grab some green paint, gather some green papers, take a snapshot of something green, mention the word "green" in a title, sentiment, or journaling -- heck, you can even go green by repurposing something on a page. No matter the approach or type of project, just green it up somehow!
The planning for this layout involved immersing myself in all things green: I ransacked my October Afternoon stash and pulled together various greens from collections such as Milk Money, Eggnog, and Girl Talk. I even created a green pattern of my own to include on the layout, using a polka dot stencil and a layer of modeling paste mixed with some October Afternoon Sprinklers ("All Aboard" and "Miss Mary Mack").
Even the title is a celebration of green! I used a variety of green watercolor pencils to transform a few Daily Flash Gray Flannel chipboard letters. Watercolor pencils are a snap to use -- it really is as easy as coloring the letters and lightly brushing water over them. I used a similar approach with the handwritten component of the title. With a craft marker, I wrote the word "green" on white cardstock, and then re-wrote the word "green" over and over with a series of different shades of green watercolor pencils. I then cut around the word, and brushed water over the letters, which resulted in a lovely blending of colors. I backed the word with a few pop dots for an added boost.
Watercolor pencils also came in handy for accenting the papers that I added to the layout.
As luck would have it, Mandy joined me for today's challenge, and she went green in a big way, to document a big dream.
Here's what she had to share about her layout:
"When Jill sent the green challenge to me I really didn't have an idea in mind of what I would do, but I knew I'd take the challenge. To be honest, I love the color green, but I don't scrap it enough. I started pulling all different lines that had greens in them, and I ended up going with the Travel Girl line. I love that line so much!
The photos I used are not from adventures anywhere, but they fit the layout about my someday-European travels that will hopefully happen someday soon! I know that someday-travel adventure will include photos of me smiling and having a grand time and also of the countryside just like on this layout. Not only did Jill challenge me with this color challenge, but she also had me thinking outside the box, telling a story that has nothing to do with photos I'm using, which I don't think I've done much before. Thanks so much, Jill!!"
Thank YOU, Mandy, for sharing such a terrific layout!
Now it's your turn -- be inspired by the abundance of green on St. Patrick's Day and the promise of more green to come as spring begins, and create a project! Be sure to share it in the October Afternoon Flickr gallery (and if you can, add a link to the comment thread below).
Have a wonderful day!
