Hey guys!
It's Laura here with todays tutorial. I was working on a page with two of my boys and thought I would really love a little sewn banner. Now of course October Afternoon makes the "Sew Fun Banners", but I wanted one to match the Apple Cider line I was using so I pulled out my stamps, a punch, and went to work.
Here are the supplies I started with:
Water color paper
Aqua Pen
Stamp (Apple image from the Apple Cider line)
Distress ink
Stamp the image out a number of times at the edge of the paper for easier punching later. I used a staz-on ink to stamp the images.
Next fill your aqua pen with water (or use a damp paintbrush), sqeeze the lid of your distress ink down and some ink will transfer to the lid. Use this ink to dip your brush into, and paint the image in. You don't need to worry about being perfect since it's supposed to be blotchy and have a water color look to it. Now you may be thinking that the inside of an apple is not red, but white, and you are correct.. However I wanted it to be red and stand out for the sake of this project. No one said they had to be realistic, did they? ;)
Grab a circle punch that is slightly bigger than your image and punch them all out.
Next we are going to run the punched images through your sewing machine. To make life easier for me I added a line of removable adhesive to a piece of scratch paper and lightly adhered the images so they would stay the same width apart and sew easily. You don't need to do this step, and can simple feed them through the machine too.
Peel them away from the scratch paper and you have an easy and cute stitched banner! :)
The banner makes a perfect embellishment for my page, and adds a fun touch of whimsy.
Thanks so much for stopping by today, I had so much fun making this layout, and I hope you feel inspired to make a stamped banner for your own projects, and if you do, don't forget to share them in our Flickr Gallery. I would love to see them!
Have a happy Tuesday!
Laura :)
