Happy Thursday! It's Jill here, with this week's sketch challenge.
If your inbox is anything like mine, then the number of messages from actual human individuals pales in comparison to the number of advertisements received on a daily basis. Still, as annoying as all of that may be, from time to time there are some perks. Every so often I come upon an ad with a great design -- so great, in fact, that it makes me think twice before hitting "delete." These ads can translate into some great inspiration for layouts, as is the case with this week's sketch:
Although the ad on which the sketch is based only includes a single photo, the sketch can be adapted for a layout that accommodates multiple photos and allows for the incorporation of patterns and accents.
Based on the sketch, I created a layout with a strong central focus -- a large photo -- and worked in additional photos, patterns, and accents surrounding the focal point.
The three "text points" (the title and the two journaling blocks) serve to create a visual triangle.
In addition to using patterns and stickers from the Milk Money collection, I also had some fun working with the new Daily Flash chipboard letters and frames. I love the dimension and texture that they add to the page.
This week, Mou Saha joined me for the sketch challenge, and interpreted the sketch to create this colorful layered card:
"When I saw Jill's sketch, I loved the layering possibilities. I noticed that the main block in the middle was blank. So I wanted to pick a paper that had light colors, spare patterns and a lot of white space. I found it in the B side of Midnight Clear paper from Silent Night Collection. For the layers, I used bits and pieces from both sides of the Bonfire paper from Daily Flash Apple Cider collection. I used a Frame Up Flash Chip to add my sentiment. To jazz things up a tiny bit, I added a chipboard border at the bottom and some Pop Drops enamel stickers from Daily Flash Eggnog collection."
"It was fun to create a Valentine's Day card using Christmas and Fall collections. Thanks for a lovely sketch, Jill!"
