Happy Tuesday! It's Jill here, with a quick and easy tutorial for adding translucent layers to a layout in the form of stitched vellum pockets.
Step 1. Trim a sheet of vellum to the same size as your desired background for each pocket. I trimmed my vellum to fit three "slides" from the Daily Flash Snapshots line. Step 2. Layer patterned pieces just under the vellum that work with the colors and theme of your layout-in-progress. These will be stitched into the pockets later. I used patterns from the Daily Flash and Public Library lines.
Step 3. Grab your favorite confetti punch and a bunch of scraps. I like to throw some colored vellum in the mix.
Step 4. Punch away! After using the punch about 15-20 times, there should be more than enough confetti for your pockets.
Step 5. Stitch two sides of one of the trimmed sheets of vellum.
Step 6. Add one or two fingerfulls of confetti to the pocket, and complete the stitching on the other two sides. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other pockets, if any.
Here's my finished layout, including several stitched pockets:
I love the way the little bits peek through the vellum!
If you'd like to have a go at stitched vellum pockets, I'd love to see the results! Be sure to share your projects in the October Afternoon Flickr gallery.
