Hi OA fans! Alex here. I must admit, I am a little bit nervous today. I am nervous because I am here to share my very first sketch with you. And I don't mean my first OA sketch, but... you know... my first-first. I've never made a sketch before. Eeeek! I hope you are going to like it! Here it comes:
As you can see, I dedicated a lot of space to journaling. I wanted to give you a design that encourages you to tell a story. Not only with your pictures, but with your words. Here is how my layout turned out.
The layout is about my daughter's way to express her love for her baby brother. She can say the sweetest things. Like that one time when she suddenly started to cry while they were cuddling. When we asked her why, she said: "Oh, mummy! I am so sad because I love him so much and I know that I can't marry him when I grow up." That's just one of the stories I wanted to preserve with this layout.
I have used the Travel Girl collection and the Daily Flash alpha stickers. As my background I have used the B-side of the Direction paper. Behind the journaling and under my title, I have the Postcard paper, but from the 8x8 pad. The orange hearts are cut from the Train Case, also from the 8x8 pad. Some shape stickers and tidbits and the layout felt whole. Love the Travel Girl colors! Can't get enough of this line!
I made those little frames with my Cameo. Let me know if you would like to see a tutorial about how to make them and I will put one together, here or on my personal blog. It's really simple.
I sent my sketch to Jill and I love what she did with it! Take a look at her gorgeous layout:
I have always loved Jill's way with words. I could read her journaling over and over again...
Here is what she had to tell about this layout:
"I had so much fun working with this sketch! It creates three separate sections for the elements usually found on a layout -- title, photos, and journaling -- but somehow also pulls the three sections together in a unified way. I adapted the sketch for an 8.5" x 11" format, and I overlapped the title, photos, and journaling. I also added a few more photos and created two rows rather than just the one, but I did take my cue from the sketch's "disrupted" pattern of photos (vertical, vertical, horizontal, vertical) and did something similar with my photos, "interrupting" the vertical pattern through the inclusion of floral patterns among the photos. All items on this layout are from the Daily Flash and Public Library lines, with the exception of a few label stickers, among them a Midway circle label sticker, which I misted with yellow and placed behind the clouds."
Thanks so much, Jill!
We hope that you will feel inspired to play along with us. If you do, don't forget to share your work with us by uploading it to OA's Flickr gallery. We would love to see your take on this sketch!
Thanks for stopping by today!
