Hey everyone! Roree here with a Tuesday tutorial.
I thought it would be fun to play with some fabric for my tutorial today. I used some Fly A Kite fabric that I had leftover to make a "puffy" card.
Here is my card:
To create your own card, start with a Fly a Kite fabric panel, some Heat N Bond Iron-on Adhesive, and an iron.
Cut the iron-on adhesive to the size of the fabric panel, place it over the backside of the fabric panel, and iron it onto the fabric. Peel off the paper backing.
Now, did you know you can cut fabric with your die cut machine? That is the reason for using the iron-on adhesive—to stabilize the fabric.
Apply the stabilized fabric to your cutting mat and use your die cut machine (I used my Cricut Expression® 2 machine and Indie Art cartridge) to cut out the top layer of the strawberry for the card.
Tip: When I cut fabric with my machine, I try to always use a newer mat and a blade along with machine's recommended cut settings for fabric to get the cleanest cut possible. Sometimes the fabric may snag a little or not cut all the way through. If that happens, I just use my scissors to trim it up.
Cut the bottom layer of the strawberry from patterned paper. Place the fabric layer over the paper layer and sew 2/3 of the way around strawberry creating a pocket.
Tip: When I cut my shapes, I cut the top layer a little larger than the bottom layer to make room for the filling.
Add some stuffing to the pocket and sew the pocket closed.
Pull the thread through the back of the paper panel, then knot and trim the ends.
Knot a piece of embroidery thread and thread both ends through a sewing needle.
Pull the ends through, tie a knot on the back side, and trim the ends. Repeat this step for each knot you add to your strawberry.
Lastly, adhere the panel to a shaped card and embellish. That's it!
I hope you enjoyed today's tutorial, and I hope you get a chance to try making one of your own.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
