How many of you have spent precious crafting time searching for the perfect color of ink or paper to match the collection you are working with? We have now done some of that work for you. Every Friday this month we will share color matches that we have found for our latest release - Travel Girl.
Today we will be focusing on cardstock. When Alison and I set out to do this color matching series for the blog we thought (at least I thought) it would be a piece of cake. All we had to do was get samples from Bazzill and a few other paper companies and pick the colors that matched Travel Girl. I can see some of you smirking at your computer screen right now. This was not an easy assignment.
Let talk first about the word EXACT. That word is as painful to me as the word PERFECT. Please don’t ask for a PERFECTLY EXACT MATCH, I may have an aneurism. There are so many variables when it comes to colors that an absolutely perfect match can be difficult to find. Within each color family there are countless different hues and shades.
We also found that at times there can be variables within the exact same color. I bought some Bazzill Lagoon cardstock at Michaels and Alison bought some at Archiver’s. Same company, same color name, but when we put them side by side they were clearly different colors. No matter how hard companies try, different dye lots of the same color can still come out different. I’ve had the same experience with fabric. Color differences could also result from how the paper was stored. If paper is stored in sunlight if can fade, resulting in an entirely new color.
That being said, here are the matches we found. We have also included some colors which, while they do not directly match any colors on the Travel Girl palette, we found them to compliment the line. Why Bazzill and Stampin' Up! you ask? Because we were lucky enough to be provided with swatches, making our job a little easier.

Just so you have something else fun to look at. Alison and I have created projects with the colors we could get our hands on.
I decided to start with a very simple page using Lagoon, Walnut Cream, Lime Crush and Bazzill Red (all Bazzill colors). I wouldn't have thought about the base colors on the patterned papers but Alison did and I love this with the Walnut Cream instead of just white.
Alison created these cards using a variety of colors and styles.
I
love the detail on the walnut cream background and tag piece. She
stamped both of those using the Streets of Paris stamp and Hero Arts
Shadow Soft Sand. It is just such a simple detail but it makes a huge
impact. She even found a good match for the orange from some older cardstock in her stash.
All of the colors in this card just make me happy. It's not always easy to use so much color and still look great.
Now how about some prizes? If you
have other color matches for Travel Girl that you like please share them
in the comment section. If you share a good color match, that no one else
has suggested yet, your name will be put into a drawing for a Travel Girl 8x8 Paper Pad!
We encourage you to share your projects using Travel Girl and some matching cardstock in our flickr gallery. Tag your photo TGcolormatch and you could win a Collection Kit!
Entry for these contests will remain open until Friday, July 26.
The winners will be announced Wednesday, July 31.
