October Afternoon is pleased to introduce Shay Tibbs as its guest designer for the month of March!
Shay is a 26-year-old single mother of a munchkin named Caleb and resides in Kettering, Ohio (go Buckeyes!). She started scrapbooking as a serious hobby when she was 12-years-old and has happily become more and more involved over time.
Shay is currently attending the Academy for Art University, where she's studying graphic design. When she's not doing homework or playing with paper, she fills orders for her online shop, Forevery Young & Crafty.
In addition, she is the coordinator of a fun group of scrappy ladies known as the Social (Media) Butterflies who bring inspiration to one another and others with blog hops and fun projects. You can find all that and more at her blog http://sbookinshay29.blogspot.com/ or by following Shay on Instagram @sbookinshay29, where she provides lots of sneak peeks, products and giveaways.
Let's get to know Shay a little better:
Are you a layout person, a card person ... or both?
I'm definitely a layout person, as much as I like handmade cards, I've just never been a card lover. Give me a layout or mini book anyday. I'm also totally in love with making Project Life my very own, which I share on my blog every Sunday.
What is on your scrap desk right now?
I know this will be hard to believe since I've been scrapping SO long, and create almost daily, but I don't own a scrap desk! I know, crazy right? I have plenty of shelving, but this girl is totally a lay it all out on the floor, spread it out on the bed in front of me worker - I like to take my projects with me! So instead, I have project folders. Currently I've got lots of October Afternoon pulled out, as well as some products from other companies that were fabulous Winter CHA must-haves.
What is your favorite October Afternoon line or product ... and why?
Favorite product would have to be the Mini Market Alphas. I'm a sucker for a great alphabet, and these come in SO many fabulous colors and are the perfect size for just about ANY project! My favorite line of all time would have to be Seaside and I love that any October Afternoon line can be used together with others. My stash of older products makes me super excited when I get to pull out the bits and pieces I have left!
What can you NOT scrapbook without?
I would have to say I cannot scrapbook without adhesive, because I have to have some glue to my paper and pictures. These days I cannot seem to finish a page without my tiny attacher, hand sewing and lots of bits and pieces. I especially LOVE to layer journaling cards, labels and die cuts in my layouts.
What is your favorite source of inspiration?
Everything. I am constantly surrounded by things I find inspirational, that translate into my projects ... from my iphone cases to print ads, the amazing community the scrapbooking industry provides.
What is your favorite movie, TV show or book?
It changes all the time. I am a movie and book fanatic, will read or watch almost anything, and constantly love doing both. Right now, hands down favorite for book AND movie would haver to be The Perks of Being a Wallflower. If you haven't seen or read it, go, now, and you will fall in love! As for TV shows, I have a few, including How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory are at the top of the list, but the OC still has my heart.
What is your favorite food?
Potatoes. I am an incredibly picky eater, but I have a true love for potatoes, whether they're mashed, browned, fried, with gravy, with bacon bits, with cheese ... the more fattening the better! LOL
Besides scrapbooking and paper crafts, what do you do for hobbies or enjoyment during your "free" time?
I am addicted to traveling to new places. I love softball and still play co-ed in the summer. I"m a total movie nerd, whether it's still in theaters or at home while I scrap. I LOVE to read, so if you have any book recommendations, pass them on! I grew up being a competitive dancer and cheerleader - ballet, tap, jazz, pom, competitive teams - it's still a huge part of my life and I love to go see shows.
If you were a superhero, what power would you possess and why?
I would love to be a superhero as long as my best friend, Michelle, would get to be my sidekick with a matching cape. For me, the power to fly would be just fabulous. As a travel bug, it would save so much money on flying and I could just jet over for a night, no big deal!
If you could have dinner with anyone, living or deceased, who would it be and why?
I would love to have dinner with ALL my scrappy friends, in one location. Almost like a CHA dinner, without the booths! To be surrounded by all of my favorite creative people, together. No "outsiders" who don't know what mist is, or why we scrapbookers can talk about upcoming products like we know everything about them. Just a group of ladies and gents who love what they do.
What for Shay's posts on the October Afternoon blog every Friday during March!
