Happy Tuesday OA fans! Lexi here today to show you how to make a fun cotton candy card using the new Midway line, which should be hitting stores soon.
I made this tag for CHA and was asked if I could do a tutorial. It's super easy! I decided to make a card version this time. Obviously this isn't a standard flat card to send in the mail, but it would be fun delivered in person or attached to a gift.
The card I made this time around is just slightly different.
To get started you'll need these supplies:
sprinklers--I used Miss Mary Mack and Hopscotch
circles punched from Ticket Booth paper--I used 1/2in punch
Tilt-a-Whirl paper for background
Cotton Candy paper for the cone
buttons
small handful of poly-fil
cardstock
twine
adhesive
paper trimmer or scissors
stapler
alphabet stamps
To make the cone you'll use the black and white striped side from Cotton Candy. I didn't even realize this was the paper's name, but it certainly fits. I used the paper from the mini 8x8 pad, but either will work. I confess--it makes me a bit dizzy looking at it! I'm sure there are better ways to make a cone shape, but I did it like this....cut the paper in a shape that is like a rectangle, but with one of the longer sides rounded.
Once you fold it into a cone shape, staple it closed. I found this holds the best. You'll have a little flap so just cut that part off.
Your "cotton candy" is poly-fil, sprayed with hopscotch sprinkler. There are several colors of sprinklers so your cotton candy really could be any color you want! The key here is to let it dry. It will be wet and you can get it all over your card if you try to rush it. Trust me. If you are really concerned about inky hands you might want to wear gloves. A little mess never bothered me ;)
The base of the card is standard cardstock. The background paper is that fun zigzag from the tilt-a-whirl paper. I used one of the cards from the miscellany packs just slightly off center to anchor the card. This card was kinda my guide for the size of the overall card, which is 4.5x5. The bottom of this miscellany card had colors that didn't go with what I was wanting...
...so I cut a piece from the main gate paper and sewed it all down.
I used double-sided tape to add my cone to the card and then stuffed my cotton candy inside. A sprinkling of ink and punched circles were added along the right side of the card. The sentiment combined stamping and sno-cone mini markets on a label and a few buttons finished it off.
So there you have it. A card fit for a sweet friend! If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments and I will do my best to answer them. Enjoy your Tuesday!
