Hi everyone! It's Amy here again this week with our Monday Challenge for you! This week I thought it would be fun to create a layout featuring black and white photos. I love color photos, but sometimes there is something exceptionally striking about the simplicity of a black and white image.Xmas Cat Burglars by Kinsey Wilson (Holiday Style)
I especially love using black and white images for the holidays. This week you'll be seeing lots of holiday and winter related projects to get you thinking about those magical moments that pop up throughout the month of December.
I asked Kinsey to join me in on our challenge, and par for the course, she came up with this inspired layout about her two mischievous kitties and some of their holiday antics under the tree. I just LOVE how she chose the two individual images as the black and whites and then complimented the design and papers by having their "action" shot in color! How fun is that?! I just love it!
Sno'Way by Amy Heller (Holiday Style, 5 & Dime)
As I mentioned before, I love using black and white photos for holiday pictures. I also love using them with snow images. I love how bright and isolated the subject appears against the white of the snow. One of my other primary reasons I love doing this is because often times, as in these images of my son in my page here, my kids he are wearing about 4 different colors of clothes when they play in the snow. Here he was wearing a green jacket, yellow mittens, black pants. Not exactly the colors I'd love using in a serene blue page. So the easy remedy? Change your images into black and white and instantly, the focus is no longer the clothes, but the subject, which I love! Then instead of having to match my papers to my subjects' colorful clothing, I can use the products/colors I want to use for the occassion.
So are you up to the challenge for this week? Have you ever given black and white photos a try? If not, now's the perfect opportunity! And if you do, we'd love to see what you come up with! Simply upload your creation to the October Afternoon Flickr pool for all to see! There's some amazing inspiration in our pool and we'd love to see yours, too! Thanks so much for stopping by today! :D
