Happy Monday October Afternoon fans! Kinsey here with a little challenge to get the week off to a great start! One of my favorite things about October Afternoon’s lines is the use of pattern…I love that there’s an awesome mix of smaller patterns in each line…like these for example…
I tend to gravitate towards the smaller patterns because of their flexibility…I love that the smaller patterns can sometimes act as ‘neutrals’ or in lieu of a solid or cardstock. Which is precisely why these patterns are my favorites to use in conjunction with my ever-growing collection of paper punches…the vast majority of which are circles…
Which brings me to my challenge for you today! It’s super simple and all about shapes/patterns… butterflies, squares, circles, ovals, triangles, diamonds, hearts, hexagons, flowers-whatever suits your fancy. Choose just one or two shapes and let those be the ‘backbone’ of your project…so if you go with hexagons for example, think hexagon photos, elements, accents, embellies, journaling or even the background/canvas…fun right?!
For my challenge layout, I went with circles as my focal shape…
Since the photos in this one revolve around my niece’s first lemon experience, I thought yellow patterned circles would be a fun way to mimic the appearance of sliced lemon :) I had such a blast digging through all of my OA stash for this one! I’m pretty sure that there are bits on this one from at least 7 of their lines, hee!
Speaking of fun-check out Jamie’s take on the ‘shape up’ challenge…
She went with butterflies and circles (2 of my favorite shapes ever) and not only am I digging her use of patterned papers that feature circles but I’m loving how she expanded on the idea of using shapes/patterns... Her use of the different, layered scalloped edges is genius! Even the white spray mist drops are circles.
So there you have it! We can’t wait to see how your projects ‘take shape’ (hehehe, always love a terrible pun once in a while!) and don’t forget to upload them to the October Afternoon Flickr gallery here. The winner for last weeks challenge to throw a little vintage on it is Kelley Kirk. Congratulations Kelly! Please e-mail [email protected] with your address and we will get your prize out to you.
Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope you’re inspired to bust out those paper punches & die cutting machines/tools and give them a good work-out :)
