Check out another great project idea combining Tombow adhesives with October Afternoon papers and embellishments...
Jacqueline Yeo has been obsessed with making these wooden monograms lately. They are sooo versatile and make a very inexpensive and personalised gift for newborns, children, BFF, hostess... etc! She is having so much fun with them that we decided to put together a little tutorial on making one of the letters. This tutorial is based on a 6" high Kaiser Art wooden letter but you can do the same on any alternative wooden / chipboard alphabets.
1. You can paint the wooden alphabet first for a base colour if you like the sides to be painted. Otherwise, leave it raw like what is shown. Using Tombow's liquid glue, adhere a piece of patterned paper to the top of the wooden letter (right side up) and then, using a craft knife, carefully trim the paper to fit the alphabet. For hard to get at corners, use a file or sandpaper to neaten.
2. To make the edges complete, run an inkpad over the edges. You can sand them down quite a bit too if you like a more distressed look.
3. Start making the embellishments. The baby wildcards make a great embellishment tool, as they are just the right size and give a good backing for the rest of the embellishments.
4. Layer a series of embellishments - smaller embellishments work best here, diecuts especially the "ducks in a row' ones are super sweet for baby rooms. Don't be afraid to add more and more detail. You want the embellishment to really enhance the alphabet.
5. Add Tombow dot adhesive liberally the back of the embellishment cluster and adhere to wooden letter. You can also add ribbons to letter that have a "hole" in them - ie A, B, D etc...
6. Done! Package and gift!
Attached below are more examples of wooden letters that Jacqueline has made... soo pretty!
